A "feast for the eyes" literally!

By Heather Polyi  Owner/Lead Artist  Glam Spot NJ

This is an actual ad for Burger King in the Netherlands.

I am so excited for make up artistry to be taking a bigger place in advertising. Who would of thought to advertise food in such a creative way?

I have to attempt to duplicate this look, just for giggles!

BK has always said, "have it your way".
NOW...

What will we say?
I've heard the expression, "give me some fries with that shake"... Lol
What does one say to this?
"You look good enough to eat?"
"Your a feast for the eyes?"

Whatever the case may be...
It's cool eye make up, and an even cooler ad!!!
And in case you do want fries with that, we've got ya covered!

Like swirled ice cream? How about color swirled gloss?

Posted By Bridget Hudzik

The Red Carpet Authority LORAC (creator creator Carol Shaw's fist name spelled backwards pronounced 'LA-rock') wants to make sure you have the benefit on your lips with their New Lips With Benefits Lip Gloss. It looks SO cool in the tube, I don't want to use it and mess it up!

The formula is Paraben-Free and infused with antioxidants including Acai Berry, Pomegranate Extract and Vitamins C and E to nourish and protect your lips. With a non-sticky finish, creme brulee fragrance, and seven swirled shades, it provides minimal color impact, but is super glossy!
The LORAC gloss reminds me of the (not-well-received) MAC Cosmetics' Sugarsweet Collection Tricolor Lipglass from early 2009. Unfortunately, I own all of them because they look awesome. That's about it. The color is disappointing unless you do not like to have a lot of color on your lips. LORAC's color payoff is similar, however they are more hydrating, and glossy! Maybe MAC will try again with this type of product? It wouldn't hurt since the trend this year so far is for collections to be heavy on one type of product.

Add a little BLING to your look for Spring!

Posted By Bridget Hudzik, Beauty Guru

Join us with adding a little BLING, to your look for Spring!
Every now and then we all need some glitter on our mouth - er, in our life.
Stila Sparkle Luxe Gloss has just the solution us glamazons are looking for.
This gloss provides a subtle pop of color and glossy texture.

With ingredients like Camellia oil to help moisturize and nourish lips, and Vitamin E for anti-oxidant protection, it certainly has healthy ingredients that others in this category do not.

MAC Cosmetics has their Dazzleglass with high shine and their signature vanilla scent.
I like to layer this over lipstick for long-lasting lip-color wear.
I don't enjoy the glitter caking in the corner of my lips, after about an hour...
I guess you can't have it all!

Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss has a flash-plumping, “spotlight shine” effect and comes in just as many colors as MAC does... (With a heftier price tag $$)

Urban Decay's Stardust Sparkling Lip Gloss is made to accompany their Startdust eyeshadow line.
They have an upper-hand by offering Jojoba Oil to condition lips, Vitamin E to improve moisture retention, and a pleasing vanilla-mint flavor.
Like Stila, they only have a small selection of colors.
For High Shine these are NO JOKE!

These four brands stood out in average consumer picks.
We put them to the Glam Spot Test...

Stardust by Urban Decay came out on top, for high shine, and healthy ingredients, to spite it's limited color selection.

Do you have a fav?

Boots Olive Wonderbalm

Posted by Bridget Hudzik, Beauty Guru

London is such a beautiful rainy place. I studied abroad there for a winter semester and had a super fantastic time.  Being the beauty freak that I am, I had to check out their scene and what was popular. The must-have brand, Boots, was what we all reached for since it was perfect for a college student budget and the products performed as-promised.
You can bet I was completely overjoyed when Boots finally walked on water over to the US.

With this ever-changing weather, my skin thirsts for nourishment and Boots Olive Wonderbalm really helps. With just one overnight application to my dry, cracked heels, slipped on some socks and woke up the next morning to smooth, healthy feet. Even the leftover from my foot application that made it to my elbows made a huge difference.
I wish I had had found this stuff earlier in the winter when other body parts also needed some love.

Obama has released campaign nail polish

By: Heather Polyi  Owner/Lead Artist Glam Spot NJ
Obama Has Released Campaign Nail Polish!!!!!!!

I swear, you can't make this stuff up!

Richard Blanch of Le Métier De Beaute created the trio of patriotic colors; "Red-y To Win" (red), "Victory White" (white), and "Bo Blue," (bright blue),
and comes in a collector's bag, adorned with the 2008 horizon logo!

The collection will be available at Obama's online campaign store for $40 with all the proceeds going towards the re-election campaign.

The nail polish bundle, first debuted as part of a fashion-focused "Runway to Win" event in NYC.

So why such creative campaigning?
This "fundraising" tool, is both to tout that the majority of his campaign be funded from...
"low dollar supporters"  (So all of us)...

...and to achieve a lot of additional FREE publicity;
Powerful word of mouth advertising,
Knowing supporters will also wear the one of a kind red nail polish in patriotic support, and discuss it!
Bloggers and media will also carry the unique fashion stories.

Long after the launch, the name "Obama" will roll off your tongue, as people buy and sell this merchandise at even higher then campaign prices on e-bay, and more media will continue to carry the story!

This is not a political blog, so I will save my opinions...
All I know is, I won't be buying a nailpolish set, so someone let me know if the colors are pretty! ;)

FYI additional designers are on board with designing merchandise for the Obama campaign; Tory Burch, Rachel Roy, Sean John and Beyonce.

Can't wait to see what's next on deck as "Runway to Win" continues...

For the Love....

"It's not easy being green"

By: Heather Polyi, Owner/Key Artist Glam Spot NJ

Kermit's famous saying...
"It's not easy being green..."

Could not be further from the truth, this season!

Green is a new trend, at least in cosmetics!!!!
Green eyeshadow, lashes, manicures, and even lips are stepping out into mainstream.

I have seen magazines, blogs, and TV segments with the color either being worn, or being discussed!

This is my right foot, adorned with what I refer to as my "Green Lantern" , toe polish

This was accomplished at Sexy Nails, on Broadway, in Fair Lawn NJ...
This color is called Belmont Garden.

The green feather lashes from this photoshoot were bought at a Makeup show and are from Japan.
(No lable)
Love bright green lashes!
This is my work on model, Marina Wienberg.

Weather it's dark greens, or bright greens...
Worn alone as a feature or combined with other colors...

Green Makeup is a perfect accessory!

Pink and purples, with lime green as the accent color on the lid is beautiful...  This is my work on model, Danielle Martino.

Sugarpill cosmetics quad in Sweetheart $34.00
Contains a bold lime green, sure to turn heads.

Midori is the green shadow in this quad, and it also comes as a single pressed shadow

Green on the eyes is not as odd as Green lips!

These lips were actually featured in our "Lip Service" segment.

Even my friend Kermit is in on the action...

So... This season,
Don't be Green with envy!

GO GREEN!!!!

A little South Beach, before work!

Posted by Bridget Hudzik, Beauty Guru

Beautiful blue ocean waves and sky in South Beach! This Stila collection can take you on a virtual vacation. Calming blue hues, to take away the Monday "blues".

When it comes to pallets that are neatly packed and ready to go, you can always count on Stila. The Striking in South Beach Palette has four fresh eye shadows, Art Deco cheek color and a sun kissed bronzer/highlighter. I love how these are so space friendly, they line a shelf like books! They have such great color payoff with their shadows, blushes, bronzers, and highlighters. (I would love for the lip colors in the palettes to be more pigmented, but, for a travel friendly palette, they will do.) Some of the books even come with directions that talk to you! Whether you are a beginner or not, these palettes will literally go miles with you and it's worth the investment. They come and go quick on the Stila site, and in store... so when you see them, grab them!

We Will "Rock" You

Posted by Bridget Hudzik, Beauty Guru

It's Bronzing and perfecting time folks, and when it's hot I don't do heavy make up.
Enter:

Goddess Rocks!

Immediately, I am sold before I know a thing about what it is!
From the packaging, to the shiny pigmented "rocks" that await me inside, I am excited!
These will not disappoint!
UK based MeMeMe Cosmetics is the genius behind this versatile product, MeMeMe Goddess Bronzing Rocks. They can be used as bronzer, eyeshadow, and even lip gloss.
*** Do note they make a bit of a mess... Use brushes!***
All of MeMeMe cosmetics are inspired by ancient Greeks and the bohemian spirit, the all female team behind this vision is super passionate about creating gorgeous, distinctive and spirited cosmetics for their customers all over the world.
It takes an ocean to get to them, but they can be found in many specialty department stores in the US.

When I found these, I was instantly reminded of Guerlain Météorites Pearls.
Guerlain promises to "erase imperfections and soften features" and comes in 3 different shades.

Physicians Formula, found in your local drug store, carries less expensive versions of both the Bronzing Rocks and The Guerlain Pearls
Glow-Boosting Sun Stones.

 Mineral Correcting pellets.

I am all for less expensive and easy to access.
I am also a sucker for packaging, and truer pigments!
It's a toss up!

Whatever you choose,
We like them ALL

No matter what, your new glow,
Will totally "ROCK"!

Ok, so your walking through the make up department at your favorite store and, you have no clue what you are looking at, what you are looking for, and salespeople are hawking your every flinch!!!!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!
It's like Freddy Kruger...
Don't scream!!!

You need a little confidence and guidance before being bombarded with impulse purchases, you will use once and toss aside!

You may even have an image in your mind of the perfect browney pink, that is not too blue or too orange... with no shimmer but not matte... It's not dark, not light... It's like Goldilocks and the three bears!!!

 Just Right!

It's also a fairy tale!
A story in your minds eye, accomplishable only with a blend of things!!!

You may have a page ripped out of a magazine! Don't be fooled by post production airbrushing, and photoshop color enhancers. In real life and real light things won't EVER look the same!

This is Your Cliff notes!
The test is later! Lol

From the very basics, to the kick it up a notch shadows that you need to know about, after this you will simply ask for them by name!

No intimidation!!!!
(sigh of relief)

This is Tarte's Femme Naturale refillable eyeshadow palette, it is filled with 10 mineral-based eyeshadows, a double-ended brush and double ended eyeliner!  The base for the shadows is magnetic so you can refill it!
Practical and environmentally friendly!
A perfect start for your make up collection!!!

Now it's time to Get Naked!!!

Not with me, with Urban Decay's NAKED palette. (lol)
This palette was so popular when it launched, it sold out across the country immediately!
It was set up to be a limited edition product, and it was brought back.
Like any successful movie, it too has a sequel.
Naked 2!

(We are still perfectly happy with the original.)  With 12 Gorgeous shadows all with amazing color payoff, and perfect neutrals for all skin tones, you can't miss with this palette.
(It is also a great gift.)

****Palettes are great when you are building a kit or a personal collection, There are however a few staples every girl NEEDS, or just needs to know about:
#1 Stila "Kitten" Shadow
#2 MAC shadows in; "Cork", "Carbon", and "Rice Paper"

#3 NARS "Rated R" duo

#4 Laura Mercier "St. Germaine" shadow

#7 Any Make Up Forever colors you are drawn to... purples, greens, maroons... They come in gradations like paint swatches!
You will also need an eye primer.
Yes ,one comes in the Urban Decay palette...
My Favorite is Lime Crime.
I have turned many of my clients on to it, with ALL RAVE reviews!!!
I use it, and after seeing the difference in application, my clients choose it as well.
While we are on the subject: The Limited Edition Lime Crime, China Doll palette is bright and fun.
This adds the perfect POP to what are mostly neutrals that I have shared.
This 5 shadow palette is high impact and houses colors that look like crayola paints from your childhood, and you are thinking I am completely NUTS right now!

These colors are amazing, I will teach you how to use them without looking CRAZY!
This is just for starters...
You've got this...
Now go out there and get em tiger, your ready to conquer the cosmetics department!!
You are armed!

...But if you want just a bit more AMMO, and some additional diversity... pick up Urban Decay's "AMMO" palette...
