There is nothing quite like the joy on a child’s face when you have made them feel special.

The team at Glam Spot NJ volunteered their time for Camp Fatima’s Talent Show to make-over any girl who wanted.

Each counselor brought over their camper at scheduled appointment times for a little glam.

Through many forms of communication – verbal and body language – the girls told the team exactly what they wanted, and they wanted it all.

Foundation, eye shadow, mascara, blush, and don’t forget the lipstick!

Some even wanted big, teased hair, or a head full of curls.

Any way they wanted, the team was more than happy to help.

One look in the mirror and faces magically lit up as if they were seeing themselves in a complete different light.

They actually were, and Glam Spot NJ was responsible for it.  What a feeling!!!!!!

For over 4 decades, Camp Fatima’s Summer Camp has provided an exclusive place for children ages 5 -19. There is no charge for campers to attend Camp Fatima, and all staff members from the Board, to the secretary, to the nurses and lifeguards, and the Directors, are volunteers. The Camp is a not-for-profit, non-sectarian organization created for children and adults with developmental disabilities. The Camp is funded by private donations and fundraising activities, and does not receive any government funding. Each camper is assigned his or her own counselor who provides individualized care for the entire week, with the help of a team of registered nurses, lifeguards, counselor support and administrators, as well as kitchen, arts and crafts, and activities staffs. All children need a safe and desirable environment in which to meet friends, play games and spend time in the sun, irrespective of the challenges of his or her disability. Daily schedules include holiday themes such as Valentine’s Day, The Fourth of July, and Christmas.

The physical aspect of make-up application includes the use of brushes, sponges, and machines of all types. The emotional aspect of make-up application come first from the client, dictating how the artist will react and ultimately feel when the session is complete. When the reaction is anything in the negative, the artist needs to stay positive and not let the client see that their pessimistic attitude is talking a toll on them. When the reaction is anything positive, sometimes the artists needs to hold back on emotion, and give a smile with encouraging words to accompany it.

“You are beautiful, no matter what they say. Words won’t bring us down…” as Christina Aguilera sings in her hit song “Beautiful”. And that’s what make-up application is all about, making someone, or yourself, feel even more beautiful then you, or they, already are. To cover up dark spots, under-eye circles, puffiness, blemishes, to even skin tone, to add color, depth, dimension, to be transformed into a character or disguise even if for just a moment in time.

However you choose to classify it, that is up to you.

Throw it out!

Admit it:

You know you still have a stick of MAC's Pink Freeze from 10 years ago (yes, the one Lindsay Lohan wore in Mean Girls)...  I know, you Only use it for special occasions.

STOP!

We all hang on to makeup long past it's expiration. 

I get it....

It's expensive, and they always discontinue our favorite shades!

After my most recent allergic reaction to an old lip gloss (blisters all around my lips) I am now taking a vow to start fresh for my face's sake.

I constantly buy new products for my kit, and my clients...

But myself... 

I still had Prescriptives Lip laquer in VOODOO...

No MORE!!!!

Follow this timeline to see if you should keep or ditch your everyday products. Your skin will thank you!

Let's start with the product that kicked off this discussion...

Lipstick and gloss!

24 MONTHS!!!!!  That's right, not 24 YEARS!  That smell, is the lipstick/gloss going bad.

The taste, is usually "OFF" 

If it was limited edition and very cool to look at, put it on display! 

Just don't Put it on!

Mascara:

3 months! 

This is THE MOST ABUSED PRODUCT! 

Buy cheaper mascara if you don't like to replenish a $22.00 tube that frequently!

Throw it out!  The eye infection from the bacteria the tube holds is UGLY and hard to get rid of!

I love Voluminous for this reason. 

 I buy them when they go, "buy one get the second for 50% off" and then store one for when it's time to say good bye...

Eyeshadows and blush...

These can last longer depending on weather or not you put your fingers in them, use dirty brushes on them and how you store them...

If you use your fingers 9mos. to a year

dirty brushes...  5-6 months

clean brushes, and always closed 12-18 months

I WAS A HUGE OFFENDER...  I FOUND TRISH McEVOY SHADOWS FROM WHEN THEY WERE LARGE ROUND PANS!!!!   

WOW!

Foundation:

Truthfully once you open a foundation after 6 months it starts to "turn"

Don't keep the same one for a year...

The color oxidizes, and besides your skin changes within that time anyway!

DON'T DO IT!

Powder:

Pressed and loose 12-18 months (Use clean brushes, and don't ever use the powder puff in a pressed powder...  You will just be pressing bacteria into your skin!

Liners:

Liquid liners, same rule as mascara!

Pencil liners...  Keep them sharpened and closed and they can last up to 2 years (if they melt from heat exposure, the wax separates...  Throw them out!

Skincare: 

Follow the bottle...  you never know how long it has already been on a shelf, in addition there are so many organic products now that have short life spans, don't ignore this date!

Rule of thumb though...

If there is an SPF in it, throw it out after 10 months..

Keep your SPF FRESH!

So the Moral to the story is...

I Don't want to look like a stay at home mom



This entry is dedicated to my good friend that took to Facebook and posted this Cry for HELP:  "I have decided that I no longer want to look like a frumpy stay at home mom...I want to look polished and sophisticated. Who wants to help teach me how to put on makeup and how to do something other then blow out my hair???"

I am the mother of two, and when I am not OUT I am a yoga pant wearing, bun wrapping, no make up girl...   I SWEAR!  This is a FACT all the other moms at School drop off and pick up will attest to!

However, I clean up pretty good! LOL

This is a 5 min. Makeup application!  Not elaborate, just pulled together! 

Trick:

A bold lip, always makes your look more "finished"

This look consists of:

Smashbox Primer Light (under foundation)

SK2 Foundation (such great coverage, no concealer needed)

Beige eyeshadow, with dark brown shadow in the corner.

Black top liner applied thin across the lid and thick in the outer corner

Black liner across the bottom lid as well.

Black Mascara (Panthera for lengthening)

Rimmell by Kate Moss RED LIPSTICK

Peach blush and powder applied to finish everything...

I should have filled in my brows but I only had 5 min. ;)

Similar 5 min application, this time with a bright pink lip (MAC)

Brows filled in this time! :)

Me on the set at Selling NY

Hair Pulled back, but still professional looking.

Same basic 5 min application:  Kicked up to 10 min.

Bronzer, Highlighter and blush blended for a natural polished look.

eyes popped with more definition in the crease, and a highlight below the brow.

Brow filled in.

Eye liner applied thick above and below.

Matte Lipstick in a neutral color(G Spot)

Amazonian Clay: "What is it?"

Amazonian Clay?  What is it and why do we care?

Recently there is a lot of talk about Amazonian clay, some brands are using "white" clay but it appears that, "Clay", "White Clay"... are the same thing. 

Amazonian Clay goes from white to tan naturally, and they are both equal as far as what they possess, as therapeutic properties!

Amazonian Clay is rich in mineral salts like calcium, iron, potassium, and sulfur.

 It is appearing in makeup due to it's ability to beautify any skin type. 

Traditionally used in skincare, and most often appearing in the form of masks, and body care.

Amazonian Clay has been used in Brazil for centuries in skin cleansing and regeneration and is known to combat free radicals and channel positive energy.

So why would Tarte make Amazonian Clay Mascara??? 

Not sure! 

I do however think the idea of it in foundation is Fantastic.  Foundation is worn closest to the skin, and all day.

 

So I had to try it, and it's "The Real Deal"!

 This foundation works to reduce the appearance of pores, discoloration, and imperfections, and helps ensure a perfectly flawless complexion. 

The formula is also SPF 15 for total incidental sun exposure.

WEAR ADDITIONAL SPF!

It feels great, and wears beautifully throughout the day! Give it a try if you are in the market for a new foundation...  But don't give up your skincare! ;) 

The Hype

Tarte touts that due to the Amazonian Clay, this $19 mascara intuitively lengthens, conditions and repairs dry and brittle lashes making this the first and only "smart" mascara that instinctively reads and treats your unique lash concerns.

Really? 
And I have land in Florida I can sell ya!

Lash concerns?

 It goes as far as boasting, that in a consumer panel survey, 91% of subjects saw healthier lashes in 3 weeks.

Compared to what???? 

If you go up against clients wearing Maybelline Mascara... 

ANY HIGH END MASCARA WILL IMPRESS... 

 There are no details as to what the subjects were currently using! 

It claims that a huge benefit, is that by absorbing excess oil it keeps lashes balanced and keeps the product in place.

I have never met an oily lash as long as I have been a makeup artist! 
An oily lid does not interfere with mascara wear!

I did try it and liked it, but not more than what I am using!  

many mascaras are great for your lashes, this one...

"Don't believe the HYPE"

I am in love with this...

I love me a primer! 

This is listed as a "serum"  however due to it's smoothing ability, I love it as an illuminating primer. Worn over my BEYOND incredible SK2 Skincare ritual!

Don't give up your Serum and moisturizer!

This natural skin brightener is infused with Amazonian clay,  vitamins and tea extract. It provides minimal hydration. I don't recommend it's use as the company describes, as a serum However it does add a hint of glimmer, and a beautiful smoothing effect, perfect as a primer before foundation!

As far as the rest of the products... If you like the color Great! Just don't be sold on the benefits of Amazonian Clay! The foundation, and "the primer" Are worn all day and close to the skin.  In that case, you will benefit from the Clay...  In a blush... Not so much!
